The Lianzhou-to-Fengbu Section (the “Liannan Section”) of Qinglian Class I Highway had completed its reconstruction into an expressway and started to commence expressway operation on 25 January 2011. The expressway operation of the Liannan Section will increase the traffic flow efficiency of the whole Qinglian Expressway and add another 27 km toll mileage to Qinglian Expressway. As of today, the whole 215-km Qinglian Expressway (Qingyuan Jingkou to Lianzhou Fengtouling) has achieved thorough connection.
The Company holds 76.37% equity interest in Qinglian Expressway which was originally a Class I Highway. The Company has acquired the project and commenced expressway reconstruction in 2006 in order to better leverage the line location advantage by providing vehicle users with a safe and sound passageway between Guangdong and Hunan and the inland region, as well as bringing good investment return to the Company.
Upon completion of the reconstruction, Qinglian Expressway has a total mileage of 215 km, with dual four-lane and at a speed limit of 80-100 km/h. It begins in the south at Jingkou, the countryside of Qingyuan City, the northern part of Guangdong and ends in the north at Fengtouling, the border of Guangdong and Hunan. It is a corridor connecting the Qingcheng Area in Qingyuan City, Qingxin County, Yangshan County, Liannan County and Lianzhou City. Among the total mileage, Fengtouling-to-Lianzhou Section and Fengbu-to-Jingkou Section with approximately 188 km, has already completed reconstruction and operated according to expressway toll standards since 1 July 2009. Due to the adjustment of nearby road networks, the Liannan Section then began its expressway reconstruction in the first half of 2009 and the reconstruction work was completed recently. Qinglian Expressway has adopted the current expressway toll standards of Guangdong and the basic toll fee is RMB0.45 per standard vehicle-kilometer.
Qinglian Expressway is an important corridor between Guangdong and Hunan, which connects the northern and southern part of Guangdong and extends to Hunan and Guangxi. The thorough connection of Qinglian Expressway before the Chinese New Year will mitigate the transportation pressure between Guangdong and Hunan and is key to ensuring safe and smooth transportation during the Chinese New Year.
